Expanding Career Opportunities

School counselors and school counseling programs have a positive impact on K-12 student outcomes. However, there is a growing need for qualified school counselors. The U.S. job growth for school and career counselor and advisors is projected to increase 5% from 2022-2032, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.1

Further, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, school counselors nationwide earn an average of $60,140 per year.2 Massachusetts is also one of the top five paying states for educational, guidance and career counselors and advisors, with individuals earning an average of $76,860 annually.2

Most graduates go on to careers as licensed school guidance counselors in public schools. Other career options you might pursue with a Master’s Degree in School Counseling include:

  • Working with community health organizations
  • Going into private practice
  • Pursuing a doctoral degree in counseling or a related mental health field
